If I thought yesterday was spooky, today was outright frightening even though the early morning hours were deceptively peaceful. Weather-wise it was one of those days where the region doesn't seem to know if it wants to go back into winter or proceed further into spring. Frost covered the ground and windows while snow covered the nearby foothills. If that wasn't enough the weather alternated between very cold rain, hail, and light falling snow. Now I can see why the gardening books advise not to start planting at the very beginning of spring because it's very likely that one will loose their new plants to frost.

I have been looking forward to this weekend not just because Neldor and I would both have a couple of days off, but because Acacia is marrying Darkfell. Although she won't admit it, I have a nagging feeling that they have been putting the ceremony off because although Acacia would like for me to be there, my work schedule would not allow it. In fact with my being on duty at the guild hall during the night and sleeping during the day we haven't even really been able to talk by phone.
So, on with what occurred today. After going home early this morning, I slept for a little while before getting up and working on one of the commissioned paintings for A.I.U. Although there was a slight chill in the air I worked on the painting out on the balcony that overlooks the paddock (it appears that living on Lokken Island for a while gave me a much higher tolerance for cold).

Neldor was of course on duty with the guild today. His assignment; he and Thorinor were to accompany Darkfell to an abandoned warehouse outside of town that has become the lair of a gang of bandits and either arrest or dispose of them. It's the sort of task that Neldor has taken part in many times before we met. Although it's common knowledge that there is risk involved, neither of us were overly worried, especially since he would be clearing the lair with a high ranking and skilled warrior of House Redoran.

I had just gone to my room to get some rest before it was time for me to get ready for work when my phone rang. The caller was Acacia (who of course has my new number). The first thing she said was, "Aeronwen? I have some news. Please don't panic."
Well that didn't sound good. Sitting up on the bed, I asked warily, "What happened? Why do you say that?"
To my dismay, she explained, "I'm calling to tell you about Neldor. He and Darkfell managed to clear the warehouse of bandits, but Neldor received a bad knife wound. It was bad enough that Darkfell took him to the healing clinic. Neldor's being patched up there now. Both Darkfell and Thorinor are with him."
Throwing my blanket aside, I stated with worry in my voice, "I'll be there as soon as I can!"
"No, wait!" she protested. As I paused in getting up, she continued, "Neldor specifically told Darkfell to tell me to tell you not to bother making the trip into town. The healers are doing such a good job that the two of you would just pass each other on the road. Darkfell will bring Neldor over to your place as soon as the healers say that he's good to go."
Reluctant to stay put but knowing that it wouldn't do any good to go over to the healing center if Neldor had already been released. I relaxed slightly and replied, "I...all right. I'll put together some dinner for him so he has something to eat when he gets back. I really appreciate Darkfell helping him."
Acacia immediately replied with, "He's happy to. He's worked with Neldor enough that he's really come to like him. Plus..." I could hear the warmth in her voice as she added, "We'll soon all be family."
Smiling a bit in spite of my concern, I told her sternly, "Don't you dare postpone your wedding again because of this. I know Neldor well enough to know that he would say the same thing."
With a laugh, she said, "Actually he already did say the same thing to Darkfell." She then continued, "If Neldor were in really bad shape we would put it off regardless of what either of you say. I want my sister to be there."
"There's no stopping me. Thank you for calling to let me know what was going on."
Following the end of the call I went down to the kitchen and used our wood fire oven to prepare some three-meat lasagna, a rather tasty dish from Cyrodill. Darkfell and Thorinor brought Neldor home just as I was taking the lasagna from the oven. As the three of them were coming into the living room, Thorinor said to Neldor in a jesting tone, "I know that none of us wanted to go, but this was an extreme way to get us out of it."
Darkfell agreed with good humor in his voice, "Yes, we surely could have come up with a better excuse."
Curious, I asked, "Excuse for what?"
Neldor smirked a bit as he explained, "The three of us received invitations to a party that Tanor is hosting tonight."
Thorinor laughed and said, "Naturally none of us wanted to go. Going to the home of someone who calls himself 'the Sleaze' just doesn't sound like a good idea. Just being inside his house might give a person a rash."
Darkfell also laughed as he stated, "Neldor having to be taken to the healing center gave us the perfect excuse and a way to politely decline Tanor's invitation. Thorinor and I certainly appreciate having an excuse, but Neldor really didn't have to do anything this drastic."
Thorinor commented, "Things probably would have gone a lot worse if Neldor hadn't summoned his warden bear guardian. When that bear appeared out of thin air the bandits practically wet themselves."
Seeing the humor in this, I laughed as well and insisted that Thorinor and Darkfell join Neldor for some lasagna. I unfortunately could not join them since I had to get into my armor (the silly swashbuckler outfit) and head for the guild hall. So all I could do was quickly kiss Neldor, tell him not to scare me like that again, and head back upstairs to my room to get changed.
And so that was today. Neldor is fine, thank the healers and the ancestors. He briefly called me before going to bed and assured me he is not in pain and is resting comfortable. Now it's my turn to be exposed to danger.
I haven't told anyone about my own guild assignment. Tonight I have to go to a cave outside of town and dispose of a werewolf.
*~*~*
Im sorry there aren't any character pose/interaction screenshots for this entry. The weird rabbit hole work hours really make it difficult to get everyone together at once. Not only are Aeronwen and Neldor working opposite shifts so that they are never home at the same time, Darkfell and Thorinor also have rabbit-hole based jobs. So for this particular day there was no way to get everyone together without someone missing work.
If Aeronwen can go up one more rank she will once again have day hours which should make it a lot easier to get interaction screenshots.
Oh, and she does have an assignment from the guild to face a werewolf. I don't know how that will turn out. And Neldor really was seriously injured during his assignment. The mod maker uses moodlets to simulate injuries, and the serious ones say in the description "you will die if you don't get to a hospital".
