The person who runs the Tattler must have been disappointed when preparing today's news, for this was one of those rare days when there isn't any juicy gossip or accounts of our neighbors beating each other up. It was just...wholesome news for today.
Sarasvati and her buckskin appaloosa Honeysweet were featured in the paper having won yesterday's equestrian jumping competition. When I spoke with Sarasvati this morning I asked her if she was nervous about her wedding this weekend. She said the only thing she's nervous about is that Master Neloth will figure out a way to disrupt or stop the ceremony. Hopefully the wards that Saje and Master Aryon will be putting in place - above as well as around the chapel garden - will be enough to block any spells that Neloth might be thinking of using.

The other news is that a pair of cats who belong to Basnik and his fiance Alandis had a litter of three kittens. In eight weeks the kittens will be ready for adoption but only to close friends and family. I can't say I blame Basnik and Alandis for that. They want to be absolutely sure that the kittens go to loving, permanent homes and not with a crazy person like Erandre or Morgana le Hex. Or a flighty selfish person like Yanna.
As for what's going on here; we now have a greenhouse. This was something Neldor and I have often talked about but we were faced with the usual barrier; lack of funds. However, with a greenhouse we could start planting earlier and not have to worry about frost killing the crops. There is a small greenhouse behind Merry Widow Manor and the three elderly ladies who live there are able to grow their own produce regardless of the weather.
We had the greenhouse on the list of something we wanted to do someday until we received a call from Aryc early this morning. It appears that the local construction company had built a modular greenhouse that was to be placed behind the Grouch House, but Neloth and Gilvoth thought that they were being overcharged and refused to pay for it. Instead of backing down and lowering the price, the head carpenter stood his ground and said that if the grouches were not going to pay for the work that was done there were likely other farmers in the area who would buy the greenhouse.
After explaining what had happened, Aryc asked, "So, would you two like the greenhouse? They can bring the sections out in a couple of big wagons and then nail it all together once it's on your property. They asking for three thousand septims."
Neldor, who had taken Aryc's call, answered cheerfully, "We can do that. In fact that's not a bad price at all. I can't believe Neloth and Gilvoth thought that was too much."
This worked out perfectly because I was only to be at the guild hall for a couple of hours this morning so I could be home to unlock the paddock gate when the carpenters arrived. Aryc mentioned that the grouches would be furious about the greenhouse, especially since it had ended up on the large lot that they had hoped to buy, but it was their own fault.
Those two mers are so strange. Godonir said himself that he is overpaid for the components he gathers for them, yet they refuse to pay the carpenters a very reasonable price for a greenhouse.
After the carpenters arrived it took a few hours to assemble the greenhouse, but when they were done I was absolutely delighted with the design. The wood and metals that had been used were a golden color so it matches our fencing. With it's windowed walls and roof the greenhouse looks very much like a little golden palace. A palace for plants. Now we don't have to worry about deer or equines going over the fence to eat our crops. Nor to we have to worry about the zombies ripping up the plants and eating them (yes, the full moon zombies like to devour crops).

I gave the carpenters their payment and complimented their work before they went on their way. They all seemed to enjoy "sticking it to the grouches". As I stood there a moment admiring the little plant palace, our animals all came around to stiff the building curiously. They can sniff all they want. They won't be able to eat any of our produce, particularly the apples and carrots, which Garland, Gloria and Oliver all love.
Since I had the rest of the day free, I unpacked the variety of seeds that I had purchased not long ago, went into the greenhouse and got to planting. Dividing the gardening are into quarters, one quarter was for basic crops (lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes and the like), another quarter was for alchemy ingredients, and the other two quarters are for varieties of grapes, life fruit, and flame fruit which can be used to make nectar.

Another plant we've decided to grow is plasma fruit. With some of our neighbors being vampires there is certainly a market for that particular crop.
When Neldor got home from the guild hall he was just as delighted with the greenhouse as I am and was pleased to see that I had planted the first of our crops. It's still too early for us to quit our jobs at the guild, but we're on our way to being self employed.
Rosewood is now a working farm.

Date: 2025-04-20 07:26 pm (UTC)From:Also, I try to get a greenhouse before the first frost to transfer the plants into because even in the greenhouse a new planting will be dormant in a cold snap.
Sarasvati's horse is beautiful.

Date: 2025-04-20 08:26 pm (UTC)From:Of course now I'm thinking of doing a pose scene depicting the grouches storming into Aryc's office and snarling at him about the greenhouse.
Gilvoth: "First you gave them the lot we wanted, now you gave them our greenhouse!"
Not that anything was actually given to Neldor and Aeronwen. LOL

Gilvoth: "Yes we wanted the greenhouse! But the carpenters were overcharging us! Why should we pay for more than what something's worth?!"

Neloth: "Cheapness is virtue!"
Aryc: "Of course it is. We wouldn't want the peasants to share in any of the profits now, would we?"
*Neloth growls and mutters.*
